Supporting Australian businesses, especially small business, that are making gear here is one of our goals. We understand that not everything can be made here and when it can this sometimes might be a cost that people can’t afford, but where possible, if you can, try and buy Australian made gear. In most instances you will be better off in the long run. The gear will last the test of time and you will probably be better off cost wise as you won’t be replacing as much gear as often.
So let’s get into this review of the Underkover Australia Weber Baby Q canvas bag.
Underkover Australia
Who are Underkover Australia? Underkover is a small Australian business based out of Hervey Bay and is run by Scotty and Ben. They make Australian made canvas products including a variety of canvas storage bags for different storage options as well as a range of canvas fishing storage gear. These guys are true fishermen, spend a lot of time out at Fraser Island and make some great fishing products. One thing we would add here, dealing with a good Australian small business always has a few little benefits that make the whole buying process so much better. The little things are what make the difference to us. Why the Weber Baby Q?
To start off, we wanted a Weber Baby Q as we have always had a Weber BBQ at home and we believe these are the best gas BBQ’s you can buy. They cook perfect roasts as well as being just a great BBQ. The Baby Q is nice and compact and is not too heavy. The perfect BBQ for any camping setup. We went with the premium version of the Baby Q so that we would get the bigger BBQ hood and the temperature gauge. This means we can easily cook a roast with the bigger hood and the temperature gauge ensures we can get the BBQ temperature perfect for whatever we are cooking. Another great option with having a BBQ in your camp setup is for those times where you can’t have a fire or cook with charcoal. This is the case in some National Parks, private properties and when there might be fire bans. Having a BBQ means you can still cook some great food over the grill and not in a frying pan.

Baby Q Canvas Bag the Best Storage Option
The solution here is to have a really good storage bag. You can go and buy a Weber bag for $50 but it won’t last as part of a camping and touring setup. You really need something made out of Australian canvas that is strong and can take a beating when driving those rough and corrugated tracks. There are a few Australian companies that make canvas bags for the Baby Q so there are a few options to choose. The ones we looked at are all made from Australian canvas but are all slightly different in design and features, as well as having different price points. This is where the Underkover Australia Weber Baby Q canvas bag stood out from the rest of the competition.
To start with, the Underkover canvas bag is the best priced option from the different brands we compared. For just over $100 you not only get the canvas bag for the Baby Q, you also get another canvas bag to store the two BBQ plates. If you don’t want the BBQ plate bag then it’s under $100, but make sure you get the bundle (we explain below).
Now let’s talk about the bag design and features.
Bag Design and Features
You can buy the Baby Q canvas bag on its own but we would highly recommend adding the BBQ plate canvas bag as well. It ends up being slightly cheaper if you bundle them together. The canvas bag for the BBQ is made out of Australian canvas, so is super strong and will take a beating. It has two straps for carrying the bag that are super strong and easy to carry the Weber Baby Q. The bag has a heavy duty YKK zip that is very easy to open and close. The bag has been designed so that when it is open, it is really easy to get the BBQ inside. Underkover in order to give you a nice big opening have then added a strap on both ends with a clip, this allows you to strap the two corners down for a tighter fit. You can see these straps in the pictures below. These straps are adjustable, so you can have them nice and loose when you first connect them and then tighten them up to make sure the BBQ is not going to move around within the bag. The bottom of the bag has a nice thick piece of marine carpet to ensure that there will be no wear and tear in the canvas when the BBQ vibrates when driving down those rough and bumpy roads. The marine carpet is removable so you can take it out and clean it if ever necessary.
As we mentioned above, you really should buy the BBQ plate canvas bag as well. Having the BBQ plate bag allows you to safely store the two BBQ plates. This means that you don’t leave them inside the BBQ where they will move around and definitely get damaged. This bag again is made out of high quality Australian canvas. The bag closes with velcro at the end. Inside the bag there is a thick piece of marine carpet. This allows you to store one plate on either side of the carpet to ensure they do not rub up against each other, protecting them from being damaged. We have found that there is enough space in this bag once you’ve added the two plates to also add a small roasting trivet. This is great for when you want to do a roast or cook something a bit slower and don’t want the meat sitting on the BBQ plates. You then store this bag at the bottom of the BBQ bag before adding the BBQ.
One little design feature that is just really cool (doesn’t make any difference to the storage) is the little gecko foot in the one corner of the BBQ bag. See the picture below. Sometimes it is the little things, and we just love that little touch that has been added to the bag. Finally, you can also get the bags in two different colours, kahki and dark grey.
