Grab Me Gear – Gear Mate
A Look at the Grab Me Gear, Gear Mate Starter Kit
So I grabbed (get it š ) two sets of the Grab Me Gear Gear Mate starter kits. Youād call them āmatesā for many right? Iāll need to ask Jimmy about that.
I wanted better storage in our Drifta rear drawers and I really liked the look of the Gear Mates with their canvas backing and clear top fronts. Easy to see your gear and they looked really well made. I already have a dash pocket and know how well that was made so assumed the same quality and I was correct.
I bought two of the Grab Me Gear Gear Mate starter kits which are $60 each and you get one of each size being small, medium, large and extra large, there are two colour options, green and black, we went with black. Couldnāt decide on what sizes I would need so went this option which basically gave me two of each size. Donāt think itās any cheaper buying the set so buy what you need. Check it all out below.

I’m super happy with how they are made. Awesome quality and look like theyāll last. Now just a matter of working out how to pack all my stuff.
So I emptied my drawers and got started. Used one of the small Gear Mates to pack my spare fridge cable (always carry one just in case), spare UHF and a few allen keys for spotlights, roof rack etc, basically a little bag of spares thatāll sit at the back of the drawer as I wonāt need to get to it too often. I then used one of the extra large ones for all our tie down straps, awning strap and few other random ones. We probably have too many but you never know when you are going to need more and we will use more than half of them on the roof rack with all our gear when we head out camping. We used one of the large ones for our digital tyre inflator and a few other air accessories. See these below.

I didnāt take individual photos of the next couple. We used a medium one for our clothes line rope and pegs, this is always used when we camp as there are usually towels, costumes and tea towels to dry. The other medium one we then used to store our headlamps, spare batteries and a 12V extension cable that comes in handy when we pump up our air mattress. The other large one we used for sunscreen and insect repellents. All of this and a few other things fit into the top drawer as you can see in the photos below.

The final extra large one was saved till last for my survival kit š. Check it out below. This will be the best bag when Iām travelling especially for work and I canāt get a decent coffee. Small coffee plunger, Wacaco Nanopresso, Portlex coffee grinder and coffee beans to last at least 5 days. If I donāt feel like an espresso then Iāll use the coffee plunger and grind the coffee courser, and if I want a nice creamy espresso then Iāll use the Nanopresso and grind the coffee super fine. Iāve used the Nanopresso now for a while and love it (Iāll do a blog post about it at some stage), a bit of effort required but if you like a good coffee then itās all worth it. The Portlex grinder is also amazing, you can get your grind just perfect for the type of coffee you are after. Again Iāll do a post on the grinder as well at some stage. So happy to have all of my coffee gear in the one bag, much tidier and easy to grab it and go. This will get a good bit of use next week when I head down south for work and unfortunately I’ve become a coffee snob and can’t do instant coffee anymore, sorry bro – thanks for letting me stay with you but I need a good coffee to start off the day.
All of this gear fits quite comfortably in my top Drifta drawer as well as our jet cooker in a boot liner bag, large coffee plunger, 2 gas canisters for the jet cooker, a torch and a couple of stubby coolers. And there is still a bit more space for a few small things.
I still have one more small Gear Mate which Iāll find a use for very soon.
So far Iām pretty happy with the Gear Mates. But Iāll give them a good test during our planned trips over the coming months and let you know how they go. Life is going to be so much easier having everything packed together, easy to get to and nothing rolling around rattling and making a noise.
This is where you can find these online. This is for the green ones, we got black.
