Best Storage Solution For Pillows Using Underkover Australia Canvas Pillow Bags
In this post we look at the new Underkover Australia canvas bedding or pillow bags. Awesome Australian made canvas bags that are the best storage option for your pillows, keeping them dust and dirt free no matter where you travel.
Support Australian Made
This is a special post for us as we feel partially responsible for these canvas bedding or pillow bags. We already have a few other Underkover Australia canvas storage bags (we will write reviews on these soon) and love the overall quality of each of them. After another Simpson Desert and Outback trip we had enough of using a freebie Adventure Kings doona bag to store our pillows. Doona bags are bulky and when using them for a couple of pillows they just take up too much storage space. The quality of this bag is terrible and not even 18 months old it already has holes in it. We then hit up Scotty and Ben at Underkover Australia and asked if they were thinking of making canvas pillow bags. Four weeks later the Underkover canvas bedding and pillow bags were available online. This is why we buy from great small Australian businesses making products here who are willing to listen to their customers and actually act on their feedback.
Quality Gear Lasts Forever
Where we can buy quality Australian made products over cheap and inferior imports we always try to. This can be difficult if you are on a tight budget, but from our experience you end up being better off in the long run. Our advice is to be patient where you can, save up, and buy quality Australian gear over anything else. There are many benefits in doing this. Not only will you appreciate the gear you have more it will also last and not end up in landfill. Then there is the added benefit of supporting local throughout the supply chain, supporting Australians making quality Australian gear.
Why We Needed Canvas Bedding & Pillow Bags
It does not matter if you have a roof top tent, swag, or traditional tent, you will need to store your pillows somewhere in your 4WD. Some roof top tents might have enough space to store a couple of small pillows, but most will not. Just throwing your pillows on the back seat or on top of your bags is what most of us do. This of course can lead to all sort of issues with dust, sand, and dirt. The last thing you want when going off to bed after a big day’s adventure, is to have a dusty and dirty pillow to lie your head on. We have used a cheap doona bag that was a freebie when we purchased something from Kings a long time ago. These doona bags will be a good option for some, and it worked ok for us for a while, but we did have a few issues with using such a large bag. Firstly, the quality of the “canvas” used in the Kings doona bag is average and we have a few small holes in our one after 18 months. Secondly, the size of the bag makes it less practical with limited storage space in our 76 Series wagon. For us we just wanted small bags that could fit our pillows perfectly. This allows us more flexibility with storage as we can throw our pillows anywhere inside our wagon and not be worried about the dust and dirt that is almost impossible to escape inside your 4WD when touring around Australia.
Top Quality Canvas Bags
As is the case with all our canvas storage bags from Underkover Australia, the quality of their bags is better than most other Australian made canvas bags. The Underkover Australia bedding, and pillow bags come as a pair for a total cost of $88. The bags are the perfect size to fit one thick feather pillow, or two thinner pillows. We use one bag per pillow (one for each of us) as both our pillows are thick feather pillows. We could squash two into the one bag but with thicker pillows this is a bit more difficult. We do not need these bags for other bedding so one per pillow is perfect in our setup. The Underkover Australia bedding and pillow canvas bags are closed securely with hook loop (or velcro) and easily opened by pulling on the orange webbing. The hook loop keeps the bedding and pillow canvas bags securely closed. One potential update to the design would be to extend the hook loop or velcro down the sides, rather than just across the top, as there is the small risk that dust could get in from the sides. We have informed Underkover Australia about this and we are sure there will be an update to future bags.
Dust No Worries
Now we have no worries at all about dust or dirt getting on to our pillows when travelling around Australia. On top of this we can throw them on the ground or on top of our 4WD when we are setting up or packing up and not have to worry about dirtying our pillows. Having each pillow stored in its own canvas bag gives us more flexibility when packing and we can use them to provide support or cushion other gear in our 4WD. Moreover, we can also use our pillows while in the canvas bags on our mat or even on the grass without worrying about getting them dirty or wet.
Free Shipping
One big benefit we have found with purchasing our canvas storage bags from Underkover Australia is the free shipping on any orders no matter the value. We know Drifta make a similar canvas bag storage solution for pillows but at $48 per bag and hefty shipping charges, the Underkover Australia bedding and pillows canvas bags are a cheaper at $88 a pair with no shipping charges. For more information on the Underkover Australia canvas bedding and pillow bags you can find them here on their website.
