Rear barn door table for the 76 Series Toyota Land Cruiser.
In this post we are showing you how easy it is to fit the new Svnty Offroad rear barn door table for the 76 Series Toyota Land Cruiser. This is not a review post as we need to do more testing of the table before we can provide a thorough and honest review. Features of the Svnty Offroad Barn Door Table
Australian made products are our first choice where it is possible. Therefore, we use a range of Svnty Offroad Australian made products. Supporting small Australian businesses making it happen here is paramount. The Svnty Offroad barn door table is made in Brisbane. The barn door table is precision CNC cut from 3mm aluminium, then professionally folded, and finally finished in our favourite textured black powder coat. All hardware used on the Svnty Offroad barn door table is stainless steel so will not rust. You are provided all hardware required for fitting the barn door table. Being that the main components of this table are made from aluminium it is extremely lightweight compared to any alternatives we have seen for the 76 Series Toyota Land Cruiser. The advertised weight is 4.4kgs. We tested this out with our handheld luggage scale, which is not 100% accurate, coming in at 4.5kgs.
The fold down tabletop section has folds facing upwards. These folds at first glance appear to be good as they will stop anything falling or rolling off the tabletop. The tabletop when folded up is secured by two elastic bungee cords or shock cord. Between the tabletop and back of the table secured to the barn door, there are two rubber stoppers to help with any rattles and noise from vibrations. When the table is folded up and secured, it sits approximately 40mm away from the barn door. You will need to make sure you have more than 40mm between the rear of your barn door and your drawer setup. Svnty Offroad have advised that the table is only rated to 10kgs which should be more than adequate for cooking a meal. You just won’t be sitting on it.
Once folded down the tabletop is 680mm wide by 300mm deep. This provides plenty of working space for cooking up a meal, making lunch or brewing a coffee. You are provided everything you need to fit the rear barn door table except for the tools. This table requires nutserts so you will need a nutsert rivet tool to install the nutserts into the rear sections of the barn door. You also need a 9mm drill bit as you must make the 10 holes in the barn door slightly bigger to fit the nutserts.
Fitting the Svnty Offroad Rear Barn Door Table
Overall fitting the Svnty Offroad rear barn door table to our 76 Series Toyota Land Cruiser was extremely simple. This should take no longer than an hour to complete the install. If you prefer to watch a video then you can see our YouTube video below.
Tools Required
- 9mm drill bit
- Drill
- Nutsert rivet tool
- 4mm Allen key
Remove the Barn Door Panel
The first step is to remove the factory grey panel from the barn door. This comes off easily. Basically, get your fingers in behind one of the corners and gently pull away. The panel should start to click out. There are 10 clips that need to be unclipped to remove this panel. Slowly move around the panel pulling the clips out of the door.
Drill Out Existing Holes
Once the factory door panel has been removed, you will see 10 holes where the door panel was secured to the door. These 10 holes need to be made slightly bigger to fit the nutserts. Drill out all these holes with the 9mm drill bit. You should not need to push too hard on the drill to complete the job. Be careful when pushing the drill as you do not want to drill through and drill into the other side of the door.
Insert Nutserts
Now that the 10 holes have all been made bigger you need to fit the 10 nutserts using a nutsert rivet tool. If you have not used a nutsert rivet tool before there are a few videos on YouTube that show you how. We also give some general instructions in our YouTube video above. Screw the nutsert onto the nutsert tool. Make sure the thread does not come all the way through the nutsert. Then insert the nutsert into one of the previously drilled out holes. Now squeeze the nutsert tool handles towards one another nice and slowly until they come together. Then unscrew the nutsert tool from the nutsert.
Check the Nutserts Are Fitted Correctly
Make sure that you check that each nutsert is installed correctly before fitting the table. To do this, simply screw in one of the supplied M6 bolts and make sure you can tighten the bolts without the nutsert moving. We highly recommend you do this check on each nutsert. If for some reason you have one that is not installed correctly and start to secure the table, it will be a nightmare trying to remove the bolt with the table in place.
Install the other nutserts into the previously drilled out holes.
Bolt in the Table
Once all nutserts have been fitted correctly you can now install the table. This is the easiest part and can be done on your own as the table is lightweight. With one hand holding the bottom of the barn door table, finger tighten each one of the 10 M6 bolts provided. Finger tighten at this stage to give you a small amount of movement to line up all the holes with the nutserts. Once all M6 bolts have been finger tightened, tighten them all up with your 4mm Allen key.
That’s it, the rear barn door table has been fitted.
Our Initial Thoughts
As we highlighted at the start of this post, this is not a review of the Svnty Offroad rear barn door table for the 76 Series Toyota Land Cruiser. We will do a detailed review after a period of real-world testing. However, our initial thoughts, after a couple of short trips, are that this is a well-made barn door table. Being so light at 4.5kgs is a winner for us.
Our single gas burner stove fits perfectly on the table which is great. Our folding Snow Peak cutting board and knife perfectly fit length ways. With the single gas burner, we still have half the table free for our cutting board and other things. In our setup we use our top drawer to store all our ingredients such as canned goods, rice, pasta, flour, herbs, dry vegetables and so on. We still have full access to this top drawer with the table open which is great. Our bottom drawer can only open close to one third. We always knew this was going to be the case with where the barn door table sits. This is not an issue for us as we usually store our Uni Flame cook set at the front which can still be accessed, as well as our cooking oil, coffee and cleaning up gear. We can still get into our fridge easily. Based on this and a couple of short camping trips, this barn door table is going to work perfectly in our setup.
We also have plenty of clearance between the Svnty Offroad rear barn door table and the drawers in our 76 Series Toyota Land Cruiser. The shock cord used to keep the table securely closed is easily opened by sliding your fore finger under and pulling away. We also like the use of the shock cord as it is easy to replace these as they are readily available on eBay and only cost a few dollars. So over time when the elastic stretches, we can easily replace these. After a few thousand kilometres of driving, some off road driving, we have not had any issues with any noise coming from this table which is awesome. We do know this is a big issue with these sorts of tables, so far so good. The rubber stoppers seem to be doing the job. We have also done some testing for Svnty Offroad with different rubber stopper sizes to get the optimal size for noise reduction. You will see in some of our photos foam pieces on top of the rubber stoppers while we were testing these out before the first batch of orders are shipped.
