70 Series Land Cruiser Front Seat Fire Extinguisher Bracket by Svnty Offroad
In this post we review the Svnty Offroad fire extinguisher bracket that mounts to the front seat of the 70 Series Toyota Land Cruiser. This is an Australian made stainless steel bracket, powder coated black that safely secures a 1kg fire extinguisher. You can purchase a fire extinguisher bracket for either the driver or passenger front seats, or both for additional safety. In our opinion this is by far the best 70 Series Toyota Land Cruiser front seat fire extinguisher bracket which we explain why in our post below.
Why You Need a Fire Extinguisher
Why do you need a fire extinguisher in your 4WD? Everyone should be carrying at least one fire extinguisher in their 4WD, some would argue that you should carry more. You really need to carry a fire extinguisher for safety reasons. While touring, adventuring, and exploring, you will at some point have a campfire. Anytime you have a fire there is the risk that something terrible could happen and your fire might spread. There are also the risks of fires starting when dry grass builds up near exhaust pipes. Other potential fire risks can occur from electrical short circuits and fuel leaks. You might have a well maintained 4WD, but other fellow travellers may not and if they are not prepared might need your assistance. In any event there is the potential that a fire could occur so taking the necessary precautions is a must. Therefore, everyone should be carrying at least one fire extinguisher in their 4WD.
Fire Extinguishers Should be Easily Accessible
We have established that carrying a fire extinguisher is a necessary bit of gear in any 4WD setup, but the most critical factor is that your fire extinguisher must be easily accessible. Initially in our setup we had our fire extinguisher mounted on the side of our rear drawers. The fire extinguisher was easily accessible from the rear passenger door but not as easily accessed from the driver’s side. This would be a problem if only one of us was in our 4WD and there was an emergency and time was of the essence. Therefore, we decided to purchase the Svnty Offroad fire extinguisher bracket as you can mount your fire extinguisher below your front seats.
Front seat mounted fire extinguishers are by far the best option in an emergency. Storing your fire extinguisher somewhere in your rear drawers or any other not so easy to access location is not a good option. Your fire extinguisher in your 4WD should be able to be accessed easily and quickly by anyone in your vehicle. In our 4WD setup we have now decided that we will also purchase a passenger front seat fire extinguisher bracket and carry two fire extinguishers. This will allow anyone in the passenger seat to also be able to access a fire extinguisher extremely quickly if ever needed.
Svnty Offroad Fire Extinguisher Bracket
Australian Made
As we have discussed above, we currently have the Svnty Offroad fire extinguisher bracket mounted to our front driver seat and will be adding their front passenger seat bracket shortly. The Svnty Offroad fire extinguisher bracket is made in Brisbane, Australia and we love to support Australian made products and small businesses. Svnty Offroad have made their fire extinguisher bracket from folded laser cut 2mm 304 stainless steel with a textured black powder coat finish. The Svnty Offroad fire extinguisher bracket is extremely well made and looks great. The fire extinguisher bracket is the only one we have found that comes powder coated black. All other competitor products are in a stainless finish which does not look good at all when mounted to the side of the 70 Series Land Cruiser front seat. The Svnty Offroad bracket blends into the side of the front seat as the seat brackets are all black in colour. This textured black finish makes the Svnty Offroad bracket stand out from the rest.
Easy Fitting & Multiple Mounting Options
Another great feature of the Svnty Offroad fire extinguisher bracket is the multiple mounting point options depending on the type of fire extinguisher you might own. There are a number of laser cut holes as well as two rows of laser cut elongated mounting points. We already owned a 1kg Firebox fire extinguisher which came with its own bracket. This bracket fitted comfortably along the bottom mounting point sections of the Svnty Offroad bracket. Mounting the bracket to the 70 Series Toyota Land Cruiser front seat is extremely easy and takes a matter of minutes. The front mounting point uses the factory bolt of the Land Cruiser seat. Svnty Offroad provide a CNC cut aluminium spacer that needs to go between the fire extinguisher bracket and the seat bracket before adding the factory bolt. The rear of the bracket bolts to the rear of the seat bracket where a 6mm hole already exists in the Land Cruiser seat support. You will need to remove the plastic cap from behind the front seat to add the lock nut and tighten. Svnty Offroad provide stainless steel fixings for mounting the rear section of the bracket. Fitting the bracket is extremely easy but remember to mount your fire extinguisher bracket to the Svnty Offroad bracket before mounting to your 70 Series Land Cruiser.
Best Value for Money
One additional point to add about the Svnty Offroad fire extinguisher bracket compared to others in the market, is that they use 2mm stainless steel compared to 2.5mm to 3mm. The advantage of using slightly thinner stainless means the overall weight of the Svnty Offroad bracket is slightly less, although minimal. There is no need for thicker stainless steel as the Svnty Offroad bracket is strong enough for its purpose. Finally, the Svnty Offroad fire extinguisher brackets are priced at $79 each ($145 for the pair) which is in line with all other brackets in the market with the added benefit of being powder coated black. Be prepared to get a can of spray paint out if you are buying any of the other brackets out there.
No More Rattles
One benefit we have found since fitting the Svnty Offroad fire extinguisher bracket to our 76 Series Land Cruiser is the end of the annoying rattle. When we had our 1kg Firebox fire extinguisher mounted in the rear of our 4WD, the rattling of the fire extinguisher components was exceptionally irritating. Since we have used the Svnty Offroad bracket we have found that we can rest the handles on the carpet, and this stops them moving and rattling. We have done plenty of highway driving as well as some extremely rough tracks out in Sundown National Park and have not heard a thing. This is a massive benefit of the Svnty Offroad fire extinguisher bracket as we all know how annoying any rattling inside your 4WD can be.
Speaker Door Pods
In our 76 Series Land Cruiser we have Cruiser Console speaker door pods with the factory map pockets fitted. We have found with our 1kg Firebox fire extinguisher that when the doors are closed there is about 2-3mm clearance. Our Firebox extinguisher is around 80mm wide so that should give you an idea of what sort of clearance you might have depending on the size of your fire extinguisher. Again, this will also depend on the brand of speaker door pods that you have as other brands will more than likely have different dimensions. Have a look at the Cruiser Console speaker pod dimensions on their website to double check dimensions if you are running a different brand. If you are using the smaller and compact Fire One First Response fire extinguisher, then clearance here will not be an issue as these fire extinguishers are super slimline.
Another Great Product by Svnty Offroad
Overall, this fire extinguisher bracket for the 70 Series Toyota Land Cruiser is another fantastic product by Svnty Offroad. The overall quality of the design and finish is great being CNC cut and folded in stainless steel. Svnty Offroad have taken this fire extinguisher bracket to the next level with the black textured powder coat finish. The black powder coat makes the Svnty Offroad bracket stand out from all others in the market while still being the same price point. Being black in finish, the Svnty Offroad bracket looks great mounted against the side of the black factory seat frame. Brackets that are a stainless finish stand out and, in our opinion, do not look as good. The many different mounting options provides a mounting solution for any fire extinguisher bracket (if it is no bigger than 1kg) allowing you to mount any brand of fire extinguisher. The different mounting options also allows you to choose how you want your fire extinguisher to sit depending on your personal preference be it higher, lower, or further forward or back. The added benefit of the reduced rattle noise from the fire extinguisher handles is another great feature of this bracket. Svnty Offroad also make these brackets for both the driver and passenger side front seats allowing you to carry two fire extinguishers that are easily accessible by anyone in your 4WD.
Finally, being manufactured here in Brisbane, Australia is the icing on the cake. We would highly recommend this fire extinguisher bracket for the 70 Series Toyota Land Cruiser by Svnty Offroad, it is by far the best product available in Australia.
