Svnty Offroad 76 Series Land Cruiser Rear Roof Shelf Review – 3+ Years of Real-World Testing
If you’re serious about touring Australia in a 76 Series Land Cruiser, you’ll know how important it is to maximise every bit of usable space. The Svnty Offroad Rear Roof Shelf is one of those upgrades that delivers exactly what it promises, smart, lightweight, and durable storage that transforms the dead space above your cargo area into something genuinely useful.
We’ve been running this shelf for over three years now, including 12 months of prototype testing through the Simpson Desert (multiple times), and several other remote outback adventures. It’s been through corrugations, red dust, creek crossings, and everything in between. And it’s still going strong.
Effortless Installation in the 76 Series Land Cruiser
One of the biggest advantages of the Svnty Offroad Rear Roof Shelf for the 76 Series Land Cruiser, is how easy it is to install. It took us less than 30 minutes to assemble and mount it in our 76 Series Land Cruiser. The shelf comes with all the required stainless-steel hardware, and the instructions are clear and simple. No drilling, no complicated brackets, just a clean, secure fit.
This is a DIY-friendly mod that doesn’t require specialist tools or mechanical knowledge. If you’ve got a socket set and a bit of patience, you’ll have it installed in no time. All you need is a couple of sockets, allen keys, screwdriver and interior trim removal tool. Svnty Offroad provide clear detailed instructions plus an installation video to make this much easier.
You simply remove the plastic trim clip above the rear window to reveal an existing M6 threaded nut. Losely mount the side bracket and let hang, then movinf your hand across the headliner, feel for a depression, this is where another existing threaded nut is hiding. Move the bracket into position, making sure this is level, and then using a screwdriver, poke a hole through the lining. Follow this same process on the other side and remove the brackets. Now you assemble the shelf which is self explanatory. With two people, lift the shelf into place in the 76 Series and secure the M6 bolts on the side brackets.

Smart Design with Touring in Mind
The shelf is designed specifically for the Toyota 76 Series Land Cruiser, and it shows. The fit is precise, and the slimline profile means you still retain visibility out the rear window, not that we have any visibility with our solar screens, but if this is something you are after, rear visibility will be maintained.
One of the great features is the adjustable mounting height. You can choose between two levels depending on your gear and setup. We’ve mounted ours at the lower setting to give us a bit more depth for shelf storage, which works perfectly for our touring needs.
The MOLLE-compatible panelling is a brilliant touch. It allows for endless customisation. We’ve mounted Quick Fist clamps to the front edge to hold our longer UHF antenna and plan to add more for our sand flag. The shelf’s cutouts and M5 holes make it easy to attach storage pouches, tools, and other accessories. Just be aware that mounting Quick Fist clamps is a little fiddly as you need to somehow access the rear to secure the lock nuts when bolting them in from the front. I would recommend, if you are mounting anything with bolts, to secure these before you fit the shelf inside the 76 Series as it will save you a bit of time.

What We Store on the Svnty Offroad 76 Series Land Cruiser Rear Roof Shelf
We use the shelf to store lightweight but essential gear that we want quick access to:
- Butane gas cooker and windbreak.
- Spare butane gas bottles.
- Compressor hoses.
- Lightweight recovery gear.
- Canvas firewood sling.
- A few small odds and ends.
- Lightweight Recovery Gear
- Maps, Groundsheet, Indeflate & Other Compressor Hose
- Underkover Australia Firewood Sling
- Gas Cooker & Accessories Bag
- Spare Butane Gas Bottles in Underkover Canvas Bag
- Windshield in DIY Custom Made Bag
It’s a smart use of dead space and gives you far more storage space. Just remember though that this shelf is best suited for light gear. You don’t want to try and store heavy gear up there as it will likely impact the shelf, and you never want any heavy gear stored up high anyway.
We’ve found it especially useful for storing items we use frequently at camp. Having the gas cooker and windbreak up top means we can grab them quickly without digging through drawers. The shelf also keeps things organised and gives us more storage space in and on top of our drawers, which is a huge win when you’re living out of your rig for weeks at a time.

Built Tough for the Outback
Constructed from laser-cut aluminium and finished in a textured black powder coat, the shelf is both lightweight and strong. We weighed it at 4.5 kg, and it’s held up flawlessly over thousands of kilometres of corrugations, dunes, and creek crossings.
The rattle-free design is no gimmick. Svnty Offroad nailed the mounting system and included anti-vibration hardware that works. We’ve had zero noise from the shelf, even on the roughest tracks. Well, that is not completely true, we have had no noise from the shelf itself but, we have had noise from gear rattling in bags, like spare butane gas bottles, which is more a storage bag issue and nothing to do with the shelf. We are in the process of making our own storage bag for the gas bottles that eliminates these rattles.
This is a shelf that’s been built with real-world touring in mind. It doesn’t flex, it doesn’t squeak, and it doesn’t shift. It’s solid, reliable, and looks great in the 76 Series Land Cruiser.

Australian Made Quality
It’s worth highlighting that this shelf is designed and manufactured in Brisbane, Australia using high quality materials. That means it’s built with local conditions in mind; dust, heat, vibration, and everything else the outback throws at you.
We’ve tested plenty of gear over the years, and it’s clear when something has been designed by people who use it. The Svnty Offroad 76 Series Land Cruiser Rear Roof Shelf is one of those products. It’s not just a generic solution, it’s purpose-built for the 76 Series Land Cruiser and it shows in every detail.
